About the destination:
Karlovy Vary is the largest and most internationally renowned spa in the Czech Republic. The town was founded in 1358 by Emperor Charles IV. Legend has it that the hot springs were discovered by the Emperor during a stag hunt. The first official medical reports of
the thermal springs date back to the early 16th century. The word spread quickly and the spa became a popular destination for European nobility and personalities such as Beethoven, Goethe, Wagner, and others. The current appearance of the spa centre is very much in the classical style of the 2nd half of the 19th century. Karlovy Vary is a lively social and cultural
centre, where a number of cultural festivals takes place from spring to winter. Karlovy Vary is also renowned for some of its products – namely the herbal liqueur Becherovka, fine bone china, and Moser crystal. Apart from the charming town itself, there are notable natural and historical attractions in the area – the 13th century Loket Castle and the bizarre formations of Svatošské cliffs, just to name a few.
